optimism

“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” — Winston Churchill 1

“It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.” — Eleanor Roosevelt

“We should be optimistic not because we believe that our problems are smaller than we thought. We should be optimistic because we believe that our capacity to solve problems is greater than we thought.” — from TED Talk “The Future Will Be Shaped by Optimists” by Kevin Kelly

Cynacism is easy. Mimicry is easy. Optimistic contrarians are the rarest breed.” — Naval Ravikant

Optimism early, pessimism in the middle, optimism late.

Optimist v.s Pessimist

You can always choose to look at the bright side of something. Choosing to see the good in things is a superpower.

  • 樂觀者:還有半杯水 (half-full)
  • 悲觀者:只剩半杯水 (half-empty)

A positive mind finds a way it can be done; A negative mind looks for all the ways it can’t be done.

You Could Just Choose Optimism — Quarter Mile

In life, you can choose to be G(rouchy) or you can choose to be J(olly).

If you call out the biggest complainers you know about their behavior, starting with yourself, we bet the most common retort will be some version of standardsI pride myself on having good taste in food, so of course I have to complain about how nasty this Big Mac is instead of eating it and moving on with my life.

Choosing optimism and joy doesn’t mean you can’t have standards. All it means is that you don’t have to vocalize those standards all of the time.

Being optimistic and feeling the full range of human emotions are not mutually exclusive.
